Electric mobility and photovoltaic

Elektromobilität und Photovoltaik

Renewable energies and alternative forms to the classic combustion engine have experienced a strong upswing and correspondingly high demand in recent years. Photovoltaic systems and electric cars are particularly popular with private households, but also for commercial use in companies. A combination of both can make sense in many cases.

A crucial advantage

It is generally known that photovoltaic systems are significantly more sustainable and environmentally friendly than electricity from fossil energy sources. Unlike coal-fired power plants, PV systems do not cause CO2 emissions, do not consume finite raw materials and are therefore the more climate-friendly choice.

With electric cars, however, this is not always too easy to judge: Unlike combustion engines, they are not powered by petrol or diesel, but by electricity, which means that they cause no or hardly any CO2 emissions and do not consume finite resources such as crude oil. However, with electric cars the origin of the electricity required for propulsion also plays a role: if no charging station of your own is installed at your home, you must regularly fill up with electricity at a public charging station. However, the electricity at these charging stations is not necessarily generated exclusively from renewable energies, but usually comes from the German electricity mix, which still contains a high proportion of electricity from fossil energy sources such as coal.

In contrast to such a public charging station for electric cars, with your own charging point connected to your photovoltaic system, you know that all of the electricity that flows into your electric car comes directly from your roof and is therefore actually sustainable.

Financial advantage of a combination

If you combine a photovoltaic system with your own electric car, you not only protect the environment, but also your wallet: you can save up to 80 % on fuel costs compared to a car with a classic combustion engine. You pay less than 2 € per 100 kilometres for the fuel of an electric car; fuel for a car with a combustion engine costs about five times as much.

If you generate the electricity for your car, you are also independent of rising electricity prices, which you are forced to accept at public charging stations. Another reason to use the electricity you generate yourself is the feed-in tariff: if you feed surplus electricity into the public grid, you receive a fixed feed-in tariff for it, but this has been declining in recent years and continues to fall. Thats why it makes more sense to use the electricity for your own needs, which also includes charging an electric car.

Last but not least, there is also a wide range of financial subsidies for your own charging columns or wallboxes for charging your electric car if you have already installed a solar system. You can also safe money by combining the two elements. The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control, for example, awards the environmental bonus as a purchase premium for electric cars in cooperation with car manufacturers: when you buy a new electric car, you can receive a bonus payment of up to €9,000. Find out more about this directly from the manufacturer or dealer of your choice.
